There are many different types of bags available on the market, with each having their own specific benefits. Shrink bags are made from a plastic that shrinks around what it packages when it is heated. Hence, it actually molds itself to the shape of the item that is packaged within the bags. Anything from a bar of soap to entire boats can be packaged in shrink wrap. For very small jobs, a shrink bag is closed by using a heat gun. For larger jobs, the bag is replaced with shrink wrap and this is closed by a specifically designed machine. Let’s take a look at some of the things that are most commonly wrapped in these types of bags and why.
In terms of soap, whether you make it yourself or buy it from the shop, shrink wrap is used so that the fragrance of the soap doesn’t evaporate. Furthermore, the shrink bags protect the soap from crumbling and other damage. To wrap these, the soap simply gets placed in the shrink bag, leaving around half an inch of space around the soap. It is then closed with a heat gun, melting all the space that has been left around the bar of soap. Bigger items are also placed in shrink bags. For instance, it is commonly found on goody bags. Here, the shrink bag or shrink wrap stops items from falling out of the basket. Furthermore, it adds a professional looking touch to a gift that is often home made. Naturally, a slightly larger shrink bag has to be used for these, because both the basket and the contents of the basket need to fit inside. Tie the top of the bag with a nice looking ribbon and use a heat gun to melt the plastic around the basket and the items.
As stated earlier, even very large items can be protected by shrink wrap. Boats, for instance, are wrapped in shrink bags when they are not in use, protecting them from any adverse weather conditions. If you want to try to do this, you do need to put in quite a bit of effort. Firstly, you need to pad any of the boat’s sharp corners. This is so that the wrap doesn’t get punctured. Leave the boat on the trailer and wrap it in its entirety. You can then melt the wrap with a heat gun, just as you would with soap or gift baskets. One of the great things about this system is that you can buy repair kits so that you can repair small patches of shrink wrap should it tear somewhere. Basically, you can place any item that you want to sell, give away or just simply protect in shrink wrap.
